Our Story

Alex and Far…They were in very different places, but somehow — by some beautiful, magical stroke of luck — their paths crossed. It seemed faith had drawn them to meet each other. The rest was just an online ‘like’ away. Alex liked her picture and commented because it was funny — a dog pooping out the word LOVE. Far liked him back, believing he was Thai. They began to chat, and the conversations just flowed. They were filled with laughter and warmth, and their connection was palpable even across continents.

Their online conversations quickly brought about a desire to meet. Alex bravely asked Far out. On Christmas Eve 2023 they went on their first date, at Aunglo restaurant in Bangkok. It was a magical night they’ll never forget. It solidified the strong connection they’d had digitally. They kept texting. Alex suggested that they take a scuba diving trip in Phuket. Far was happy to join since it had long been on her bucket list, and it Phuket was her hometown!

Two months into their relationship, Alex’s work called him back to the Bay Area. A long-distance relationship is tough, but for them, it was a demonstration of how much they loved each other. They traveled to see each other frequently. Distance helped them discover huge patience, making each meeting a much awaited, precious dream. Each reunion was a joyful celebration, a cherished affirmation of their relationship. After many wonderful trips and meeting each other’s families and friends and many, many shared times and adventures, the connection had continued to deepen. They began to unravel each other to discover a very, very deep understanding that felt so unique and rare.

On April 3rd, 2025, during Japan's beautiful cherry blossom season, Alex surprised Far with a proposal. In Shinjuku Gyoen, surrounded by soft pink petals, the moment was pure magic. Far said yes, her heart full of love for a future that felt absolutely perfect.

  • Mid-February in Bangkok, Thailand, falls during its "cool" or dry season, making it a very popular time to visit due to the relatively pleasant weather. However, "cool" is a relative term for a tropical city like Bangkok!

Here's what you can generally expect:

    • Temperatures: It's warm to hot during the day.

      • Daytime highs average around 32-33°C (90-91°F), but can sometimes reach up to 35°C (95°F).

      • Nighttime lows are much more comfortable, averaging around 23-24°C (73-75°F).

    • Humidity: While still present, humidity levels are moderate for Bangkok, averaging around 61-70%. This makes it feel much more comfortable than the peak humid season.

    • Rainfall: February is one of Bangkok's driest months. Rainfall is minimal, with very rare and usually short, light showers. Heavy downpours are highly unlikely.

    • Sunshine: You can expect plenty of sunshine, typically around 8-9 hours per day, making it ideal for exploring.

In summary: Mid-February in Bangkok is generally hot, sunny, and relatively dry with moderate humidity. It's a great time to be outdoors and explore the city, but you'll still feel the heat, especially during the day.

  • Visa requirements vary by nationality. Guests with US passports can enter Thailand for tourism for up to 60 days without a visa. Please check the latest visa and passport requirements for your specific nationality well in advance of your travel dates. Your passport should also be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.

  • Aunglo presents modern Thai fare inspired by street food culture using an ancient Thai charcoal stove, or aunglo. Presented in a Japanese izakaya style, the counter bar faces an open kitchen with more seating upstairs, suitable for private or group dining. The menu is composed of small dishes, skewers and a few desserts. And the savoury dishes are mostly cooked on the charcoal flame, so a smoky aroma accompanies the intense Thai flavours, herbs and spices.

  • Thong Smith is known for its authentic boat noodles made with premium ingredients like Wagyu beef and Kurobuta pork. The restaurant elevates the traditional street food experience with its rich broths and flavorful toppings. Popular dishes include Australian Wagyu beef boat noodles, pork boat noodles, and various rice options, along with a full dessert menu.

  • Chef Chudaree 'Tam' Debhakam brings the farm-to-table concept to life with her detailed, contemporary Thai tasting menu. Seasonal and sustainable ingredients, some sourced from her own backyard, highlight a culinary journey through Thailand. The dishes present bold flavours and delicate spices, crafted by a charming team within an elegant villa setting.

  • At Sühring, twin chefs Matthias and Thomas present a modern German tasting menu influenced by family recipes, childhood memories, and travels. Each dish showcases expertly prepared seasonal ingredients using traditional German techniques such as fermenting, pickling, and curing. The restaurant, located in a restored 1970s villa, offers an exceptional dining experience, especially when seated at the kitchen counter.

  • Kub Kao Kub Pla is a popular dining spot in Thailand, with multiple locations, including in shopping malls like Siam Paragon and Central Embassy. The restaurant aims to provide a home-style dining experience with fresh ingredients and carefully presented dishes. The restaurant was founded by Atchara Burarak, who also owns the iberry dessert chain.

  • Nai Mong Hoi Thod is busy, but the omelettes come out hot and fast. A thick batter is formed from eggs and rice flour, which is then fried in lard with an abundance of plump oysters. There are two choices: crispy or regular. Both recipes have gone unchanged for 30 years. The crispy version is browned in the pan for longer so crust-like edges form, while the regular omelette has a soft, slippery quality.

  • Kemuri is a popular spot in Bangkok, known for its delicious beef and sukiyaki dishes, quality ingredients, and a relaxing atmosphere. While there are some minor areas for improvement, the restaurant is generally well-regarded and a must-visit for those seeking a satisfying Japanese meal.
